Hope you guys are having a fantastic day so far and continue to have an incredible week!
Many times when there are dinner parties that we’re hosting; either heading over to a friend’s home; or family friend; or community dinner parties. I’m usually the one put in charge of making salad, a pasta dish; which would be stir fry noodles/veggies or a pasta/sauce dish. And a chicken dish, and dessert.
Now depends on what kind of salad, and what kind of pasta and chicken, those can be done on that day of the party, and even up to a few hours before. However, dessert takes time, and takes planning to do.
If it’s a quick easy dessert, something I can quickly whip out and serve, it’s easy peasy. However, if it’s something huge, like my “famous Trifle” then, my friend, that takes HOURS, HOURS, even DAYS to prepare. Well, at least the day before, or a couple of days ago.
See, a few days before, is when I buy all the ingredients I’ll need for this dessert; then I’ll have to plan it out in my head, of how the layers should play out with each layer of layer of jello and pudding, and which cake goes best with it, and which fruit to put on top and how to decorate it.
I did mention to my family; most people will dig down and serve themselves this delicious dessert; but some that are dessert hungry will just slop down on the top layers, leaving the bottom layers behind. Which is what happened tonight; Some people totally missed the bottom layer, as they didn’t want to dig that far down into the bowl, or they just didn’t know they could take more.
Either way; this turned out to be a huge success, as the ladies/kids loved it. And, yes I made two bowls of this; one using a trifle bowl, another using a punch bowl. Both work good. Trifle I can easily add in 4-6 layers, whereas the punch bowl, I can do at least 7-10 layers on it. Well watch this 15 second video of the quick steps. I tried to do a video of it slower; but here’s the quick version of it. The instructions step by step though is below in my previous blog entry of this dish: Fruit Trifle
Check my previous blog for instructions on how to make your own Fruit Trifle: Click link below to get there or type in the Search box to your left on Trifle; of all the trifles I’ve made in the past, over the years, as they vary.
Trifle has always been a tradition of mine, to always work with layer of layer of jello, pudding, jello, pudding. The color of the jello changes, with each layer and the pudding.
Usually it’s Pistachio pudding I’m using, and usually it’s fruit mixed in with the pudding, and cake pieces (baked) mixed with the jello.
My trick is I’ll lay the cake pieces into the bowl, then pour the hot jello into the bowl, over the cake pieces. yes, while it’s still hot, over the cake pieces. Then immediately refrigerate it for a couple of hours, while the jelly sets.
Once it sets, then it means the 2nd layer can go on, whether you add on another layer of jello or add a layer of pudding.
My style of way though is if the cake pieces are not fully emerged into the jello of the 1st layer. Then you can certainly add the 2nd layer of jello, pick a different flavor/color to go over on top. you will see from a clear dish though, the colors, and layers on top of each other.
As well as the cake pieces inside, with the color. Plus the cake pieces will also turn into the jello flavor, and especially if you manage to get 2-3 different flavors of jello into the cake it looks pretty neat.
With the pudding, this sets quickly so you need to have all your things available within reach and close to you, so the can of crushed pineapples (drained) should be close by, so as you are quickly whisking away the pudding. You can add this in, and then pour it over on top of the jello,
Then let that set. Pudding sets fast, but You still need to cool it down before you add another layer on top of that. I usually recommend a good 3-4 hours for each jello layer, and an hour or even 2 hours for the pudding to set, especially if you want it to be really good.
Another is, adding the cool whip at the end, and decorating it with the fruit/berries on top. This can vary from mixed berries of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, cherries, grapes, kiwis, pineapple bits or slices, and banana slices, and tangerines or clementines. It’s all up to you as it’s a Fruit Trifle, so add variety and decorate it all around nicely.

There is another version of Trifle that I made which consists of chocolate, yep chocolate brownie, chocolate pudding, and smarties, and M&M pieces in it, oooooh and oreo cookies crumbs and cookies in it. Be sure to check out that recipe too on my blog here;
Thanks for viewing my page, feel free to like, comment, and share this with others. Especially if you have any questions on this; I’d love to help you out. I’ll be attempting to make other Trifles of other versions, I’ve done the Mango Surprise, and Pineapple Surprise Trifle, and will be looking into trying other additional techniques for this.
Thanks again and have an incredible week!
